Happy New Year everyone. Trusting you all had lovely time over the Festive Season and are all settling comfortably into 2014. January can be quite a ‘yucky’ month for some people. Its dark and more than often dreary weather, we have the ‘getting back into work’ mode after the holidays and bills are coming in after all the overspend at Christmas! The good news is, to those who find it difficult, you are out the other end now and into February, and spring is just around the corner.
So, how are the New Year resolutions going? Again for many, it’s just a repeat of what they didn’t do last year. Here are some tips on how the Positive Parties Team deals with the New Year’s resolutions list!
- Make sure it’s things you REALLY want to do e.g. lose weight because you want to feel healthy, lighter and look good NOT just because your Doctor told you to, although that is a major factor but not always enough.
- Look at your values and ensure that they align with your resolutions for the 2014. Eg there is no point in saying you want to triple your income if it means never having any time with your family and friends, because spending quality time with your loved ones is top of your values list.
- Ask yourself – are they FUN and interesting?? Mind you, clearing you clutter might not be fun or having the discipline to do your accounts weekly! But think of how you will feel after you have theses things completed! You will be able to have fun! And if you make chores you don’t particularly like interesting by listening to some inspiring audio’s or your favourite music, then you are more likely to keep them going instead of just forgetting about then until they end upon you list again next year.
- New Year’s resolutions aren’t all they are cracked up to be! You are smart enough to know you have CHOICE. Don’t feel because you broke your promise to you yourself in the middle of January you can’t start again. You are in charge of your behaviour ANY time of the day or year. Just keep coming back to how these changes will make you feel and if they make you feel good – mind, body and spirit then Go For IT!
So what has been happening with Positive Parties this past month?
Well Positive Parties Founder Denise Devlin was in Queensland Australia with her family for 3 weeks over the holidays and we welcomed her back into PPHQ on the 20th Jan (after she had 5 days to get over her jet lag!). So our CEO had a wonderful time, and although it was action packed she says she totally chilled out and left her PP brain at home! She totally needed this break after a ‘full on’ year and since she talks about balance throughout her delivery, in line with the Positive Parties ethos, she has to ‘walk the talk’ too! Back now rejuvenated and refreshed, she is all ready to ROCK and we have spent the past week, meeting with customers, brainstorming and planning for the exciting year ahead for the company.
Our work with Cooperation Ireland continues in 2014 with a project called ‘Connecting 4 Culture’ involving teenagers and their parents in schools in Castlereagh and Lisburn. We have 4 schools that have come on board – Friends, Lagan College, Dundonald High School and St Colms, Twinbrook.
We will also be completing our ‘YES C’ project with Derry Youth and Community Workshop with a Cultural Arts Show, enabling the young people to show case their strengths and talents. The Positive Parties workshops in November and December taught the participants the tools, using NLP and CBT, to be able to positively look at what they have to offer the world and how best to use these skills by having a positive mental attitude.
Our work in the corporate world continues to grow as referrals about our ‘our training with a difference’ is making such a difference in the workplace! Company managers give feedback of how their staff talks about the Positive Parties experience for weeks and months afterwards, while they would rarely mention other training events after the day.
This is just an sample of companies and public sector business’s etc we worked with over the past couple of years:- First Source, City of Derry Airport, WELB, Limavady Council, Derry City Council, Carecall, Argento, Apex Housing, Co-operation Ireland, Public Health Agency, SureStart, SDLP, McConomy Bradley School of Irish Dancing. Positive Living Network.
Denise is off to The Residence, Dublin next week to speak at about ‘the Power of Positive Thinking’ at the launch of a Women’s Leadership event for McDonald’s, Ireland. Already she is…… ‘Loving It!’
The rest of February is full of workshops, taking part in the Mind, Body & Spirit Show in the Millennium Derry and The Waterfront Belfast, plus creativity, networking, producing a new Positive Parties promotional video and much more.
