It’s almost Christmas and as Andy Williams sings “it’s the most wonderful time of the year!” We are a little late with our December news but that’s ok because we can now do a 2-in 1 and wish you Festive Greetings as well!
So here are some Positive Tips for the over the Holiday time-: 1. Remember Christmas is about love, appreciation and family. We can get so caught up in the whole commercial part about buying presents and stressing about entertaining that we can sometimes forget what it is really all about.
2. Sometimes when we are spending time with family members we can get triggered and this can cause mood change, anger and stress. Do take a deep breath, count to 10 before answering back and sometimes it’s just best to walk away. The best bet is to spend short bursts of time with family members who might trigger us and remember that awareness is everything!
3. Give to a good cause. Whatever charitable thing you feel might help those not a fortunate as you. It may be donating toys to an appeal, giving money to charity, helping out at a homeless shelter. Giving comes from the heart.
4. Relax and enjoy the time off. Go for walks read books, play board games, cook something special, watch your favourite movies, chill out. Do all those things that you don’t find time to do when you are busy busy and juggling work, house, family, etc.
So what’s been happening with Positive Parties the past 6 weeks?
We had a very positive and fun time with Derry Youth and Community Workshop in November & the beginning of December with the YES C Project – Youth (& Community) Empowering Strengths & Creativity, with the trainees planning to deliver their own YES C Arts Show in the new year. We had thought the show might be before Christmas, but there was so much going on we changed it to Jan/Feb 2014. The young people who participated were on different training schemes in DYCW, plus the lovely Marketing Manager Nicola Hassan got local schools and communities that use their services involved too – St Cecilia’s College, St Mary’s College and have Enagh Youth Forum.
We had a great response when we delivered a Positive Parties workshop as part of the celebrations at North West Rural Community Support’s AGM. All the participants had a really fun time and many stayed around at the end to tell us so. It definitely was an AGM with a difference!
And Denise delivered a taster Positive Party at Belfast’s first ever Alternative Christmas Party with the Pulsing Penguin organised by Jenny & Eoin from Fresh Start Coaching, what a great night. Her pal Michelle Major, the Sunshine Project, was part of this collaboration doing Laughter Yoga. There was loads of dancing & relaxation too and an alcohol free bar. Fun was had by all.
Our Positive Parties @Work workshop for the Public Health Agency, Western Investing For Health Team based in Gransha Park Derry-Londonderry was a great success. The staff were testing out a new learning system in the morning and their boss, Brendan Bonner, didn’t tell them what was in store for the afternoon. You can imagine their surprise when they walked into a room all decorated as if it was a PARTY!! And it was, it was a Positive Parties workshop where they had fun and learned lots of new tools and techniques about how to be and stay positive. The feedback was fantastic. Here’s a tastes of what they said:
“I liked that it was fun, I learned how to be positive. It was good fun; I enjoyed the learning and the atmosphere.”
“It was very enjoyable; much needed time out for the team. We all need to laugh together.”
“Brilliant, would definitely recommend to others.”
We start our new project with Cooperation Ireland in the New Year. It’s called ‘Connecting 4 Culture’ involving teenagers and their parents in schools in Castlereagh and Lisburn. We have 4 schools that have come on board – Friends, Lagan College, Dundonald High School and St Columbs, Twinbrook. This is going to be a very exciting project and we look forward kicking off 2014 with this.
Denise and the Positive Parties Team would like to wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
