Summer is here! Hurrah, it’s slow down time, relax, take it easy and have fun! All the things we should be doing everyday but we forget when life gets busy! We seem to have so much to do and not enough time. Our days are filled with things like work, taking kids here and there, homework’s, meetings, more meetings, some exercise, shopping, household chores, doing the garden, you name it we have to do it! So, when do we get time to take a breath and just BE! Yes, it’s hard to fit it in sometimes isn’t it! So the summer holidays are a prime time to just make time for taking time out from our usual mundane stuff, that has to be done. And don’t feel guilty about doing nothing, that’s what holidays are for!
We have just had the busiest month of delivery yet since Positive Parties was launched, which was so exciting but we are now exhausted too and ready for a well earned rest over the summer. Most organisations are not interested in staff training during the holidays and of course school are closed and communities take a break. So we can hang up our delivery shoes and get stuck into administration jobs, updating out website, creating new programmes, marketing our new packages etc, all after our well earned holidays of course.
So what have we been up last month? Our KISS (Keep it So Simple) Culture Positive Parties programme for Apex Housing, Derry – Londonderry, as part of celebrations for the UK City of Culture and were a great success. We have had separate groups who come for weekly sessions of positivity, reminiscence and fun. They discuss their skills, strengths and talents, tell stories and gain new tools and tips of how to be and stay positive. We have said it before but we’ll say it again, it is very humbling and such a joy for Positive Parties to be part of this programme.
Our Co-operation Ireland’s ‘Generations for Peace’ Programme, running workshops for primary school children and their grandparents, encouraging and promoting positive connections & positive play was brilliant. We held a very successful full days in The Playhouse, Derry, The Alley Theatre, Strabane and The Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh. Both the pupils and the grandparents and parents are loved the interaction, music, games and of course being together to learn tips and tools on positivity. The feedback was fantastic so Co-operation Ireland have asked us to run another one in The Playhouse in September.
We are also going to be involved in a new Co-operation Ireland project called “Connecting4Culture” funded form the Lisburn-Castlreagh PEACE III Partnership this autumn. Through “Connecting 4 Culture” 4 participating schools can avail of personal development, cultural awareness and good relations workshops. Positive Parties are really excited to be involved in this project.
Our ‘Go For It’ Positive Parties Programme ran again this year for Primary 7’s to give them tools and positive coping strategies before they go to the big school. Yet again the feedback was excellent. This summer term programme for primary schools is proving very popular indeed.
