Well the sun had arrived in Ireland & the UK and we pray this is it for summer! Wouldn’t that be lovely! Denise’s daughter Emer has her Grade 2 singing exams this week and she is singing “My favourite things” from The Sound of Music. I am sure we can all say that sunny days are one of our most favourite things, it does make us smile doesn’t it!
Talking of ‘favourite things’, we must say that Positive Parties is becoming quite the ‘favourite thing’ for both businesses and schools to introduce to as part of their training or curriculum. With a busy May behind us and a ‘flat out’ June we are loving it but we will definitely need time to relax and rejuvenate over the summer when the delivery days are fewer.
So what’s been the excitement in May? Well we started our KISS ( Keep it So Simple)Culture Positive Parties programme for Apex Housing, Derry – Londonderry, as part of celebrations for the UK City of Culture and we are running one weekly until the 9th July and then 3 weeks in Sept. We have 4 separate groups who have 3 weekly sessions of positivity, reminiscence and fun. They discuss their skills, strengths and talents, tell stories and gain new tools and tips of how to be and stay positive. It is very humbling and such a joy for Positive Parties to be part of this programme.
We delivered at yet another teacher/class room assistants training development day in May and the team LOVED it! They were a bit apprehensive at the start as they didn’t know what to expect, especially when their staff room was being turned into a party room, of course they would be nervous! As part of the remit for their health & well being day, the vice principal told Denise that they were a very conscientious staff team, everyone worked very hard and she felt they needed to look work/life balance and have fun. Well we certainly did have fun! Out of 32 feedback cards, 31 were very positive and only one constructive were the person said ‘they didn’t like getting their photograph taken.’
So here’s what some of the teacher and class room assistants had to say:
“Thank you, I have learned so much about being positive, I am really into this. Thank you, God bless.”
“It was great craic and it is important to let your hair down as a staff. I would strongly recommend your activities to other schools, thanks a lot”
“A really positive uplifting morning. Vital lessons to take home & use and very enjoyable as well as being useful.”
“A namely and enjoyable programme. I will definitely follow up on the reading recommend actions.”
“Was a “great” day, enjoyed myself. Loved the games, so entertaining. Happy thoughts now, for the rest of the day.”
Our Cooperation Ireland’s ‘Generations for Peace’ Programme, running workshops for primary school children and their grandparents, encouraging and promoting positive connections & positive play is going down a treat. We held a very successful full day in The Playhouse, Derry on the 25th May and we have 2 more in June, one is The Alley Theatre, Strabane and the other in The Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh. Both the pupils and the grandparents and parents are loving the interaction, music, games and of course being together to learn tips and tools on positivity.
We ran a Positive ‘Lobbying’ Parties workshop for a group of community activists ‘Taking their Campaign to Stormont!’ Again they loved the fun way we interacted with them to get the message across. They are left smiling and positively believing in themselves and their case and we believe they will shine with confidence on the day of their presentations.
So June, as we said, is busy busy! We have our ‘Go For It’ Positive Parties programme running again this year for Primary 7’s to give them tools and positive coping strategies before they go to the big school, so they are packed in this month with them. Plus other secondary schools who have called us back for more fun workshops to end off the year. We were to deliver in Enniskillen on the 17 & 18th June to St Francheas College, but because of the G8 summit and all the security it has been postponed until the September.
As always we are networking and talking to companies and businesses about our Positive Parties workshop and new packages which we are offering in the autumn. It has been proven now that this concept really works. Staff learn more when they are engaging, its interactive and they are having FUN! That’s why Positive Parties have NEVER used power point and this in one of the big things that we are applauded for.
We are also taking bookings now for Positive Parties at corporate conferences and events, the bigger the better! We have some lined up, watch this space! Your staff certainly won’t ‘nod off’ after lunch if you book a Positive Parties session! Then you can go back to death by power point! But they will be energized and smiling we can assure you!
In case you missed it last month Positive Parties are now contributing to ‘Startacus, the self start society.’ Check out Denise’s article on how to be and stay positive in business on http://startacus.net/culture/how-to-be-stay-positive-in-business
