We are NOW on YouTube, click here – PositiveParties, and view the live testimonials so far. One from the Operations Manager of City of Derry Airport re the management team, another from the Principal of Knockavoe School re her staff team building session and one from the ladies involved in New Buildings Community Centre. Also, it has been a very busy and exciting month here at Positive Parties with a mixture of emotions keeping us on our toes!
Firstly we applied for the Propel Programme, run by Invest NI and we worked really hard on the application, late into the nights and early mornings for 3 weeks, writing & editing the content until we had it just right. Then we submitted it and had the 10 day wait! On Friday 1stFeb, Positive Parties Founder, Denise Devlin, opened the ‘Dear John’ email to say that Positive Parties had not been selected. Denise was gutted, to say the least! This programme was ideal for the company as Positive Parties met all the criteria as it is innovative and has the potential to go global which has always been the plan! However the feedback from Propel was that they felt the business was not quite ready to ‘propel’ globally just yet (we have a bit of growing do first!) and to come back for the next round of applications! While Denise dusted herself down from the initial disappointment her husband Neil (who is a bit of a wise old owl) gave her a hug and said “When one door closes another one opens.”
The next week Denise saw a report in her local paper about the Inspire Business Programme, it was local and looked very interesting. The thought of filling in another application with the chances of being turned down again was not very inviting but she felt that if she didn’t at least try she’d never know. After calling the Project co-ordinator of Inspire, who was very helpful, Denise applied again to another business support programme and was told it could be 2 weeks when found out whether she accepted or not. Later that afternoon, she received an email stating they were pleased to say that Positive Parties are been accepted on the Inspire Business Programme. So Neil was right, when one door closes another one opens and this one is much more suitable for Denise in relation to family life, travel and time commitment and the support is local. As the saying goes ‘everything happens for a reason’ she didn’t get on to the Propel Programme in Belfast because the Inspire, run by Strabane District Council & Omagh District Council & funded and supported by Invest NI was on her door step! It was meant to be!
Also, Denise is a firm believer in perfect timing and although she has her days of being impatient and wants everything now, most of the time she sees the bigger picture and realises that had we have to crawl before we can walk. A lovely saying we came across this week is ‘The ego urges you to accomplish, while the soul merely ask you enjoy the process.’
Other news is that interest is still growing for our KISS Culture Programme for the community/voluntary sector. Applications have been made and we are waiting to hear back from the funders shortly. More groups and businesses have been in touch about wanting it get involved in this innovative programme for their users and how this idea meets the needs of groups who otherwise would not be getting involved in the City Of Culture.
We have introduced a new workshop called ‘Power to Positive Women Party’ which we will deliver not only on International Women’s Day but the whole month of March. The Ladies in the Healthy Living Centre at the Old Library Trust are celebrating in style on the day itself, the 8th March.
Exciting news is that we are attending the launch of the NI Children’s’ University in Stormont on the 19th February. Positive Parties are going to become a ‘Learning Destination’ with this exciting venture as one of the activities that the Children’s University will suggest to schools. We will be reporting more news on this after the launch.
In relation to our corporate programme we will be marketing the relevant companies this spring. Having met up with some companies recently we are developing programmes that we feel will suit their needs and we always insist that our Positive Parties workshops provide teams with new skills, tools & techniques of how to be and stay positive as well as reducing absenteeism and creating more productivity BUT all done in a fun & enjoyable way. The fun enhances the learning which means that people retain the knowledge and information that they learned.
