Well, this month we are certainly doing what we said last month, setting goals but also ‘going with the flow of life’ and not getting stressed when things don’t go quite strictly to plan. Our aim was to have the new website updates by the end of January and this hasn’t happened yet due to both Positive Parties being so busy delivering ‘party style’ workshops and the web designers have been very busy too. It is being worked on though and will be announced shortly! And thats it isn’t it, sometimes things don’t happen because the timing isn’t right and if we can just trust that, although we can plan and organise, as things may be delayed for a reason. In this case Positive Parties now has more up to date testimonials to add which wouldn’t have been there in January!
Some exciting news last month is that we delivered our first Positive Programme in a local School, Knockavoe College and Resource Centre. This was part of Sure Starts, Health Promoting Homes programme. The pupils were ages 14 to 16 and we had such a fun time with them. There were 5 sessions:-Incredible you, confidence building, vision board’s workshop, communication skills and lastly a Positive Party. The first four workshops where also fun and interactive and the party atmosphere, games and prizes on the last session summarized all that had been covered before, but in a really celebratory way.
On the 26th January, Positive Parties Founder – Denise Devlin, was the guest speaker at the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce and Causeway Chamber’s ‘Meet the Neighbours’ speed networking Event.
There was great turn out to this event at the Radisson Roe Valley Hotel, Limavady, which was a first time of the two Chambers coming together. Denise gave a 40 minute Positive Party ‘taster’ and as always this was very interactive. Certain members were up on stage, acting out singing in a band and by the end of the talk the audience were all dancing waving their arms in the air and singing along to ‘Tonight’s going to be a good night’ by the Black Eyed Peas!! By this stage the energy was very high and all the nerves for the speed networking that was up next were long gone. All the Chamber members were pumped up and ready to go!!
Still in the Limavady area, another new organisation, we did a Positive Party first for was Limavady District Council where we over 20 ladies who are working and volunteering in the community & voluntary sector. Again a great afternoon of fun, learning discussion and games for everyone! We had to turn the music down though as the Chief Executive’s office was next door and the Mayor’s Parlour just down the corridor! We had some staff though popping their heads in and saying “Wish we were invited to this Positive Party!”
We also did a 90 minute session at ‘Aware Defeat Depression’s’ AGM day in the City Hotel and had the directors, volunteers and staff dancing, singing and generally having fun. This was on the graveyard shift too, just an hour after they’d had lunch, when people generally drift off to sleep!
The Extended School Programme has us very busy at end of February and beginning of March. We are delivering Positive Parties to the parents and class room assistants in 4 local primary schools, St Eugene’s, St Columba’s, St Theresa’s and Sion Mills. The 5th Positive Party on the 20th March is for all the teachers of the 4 schools! Aren’t they in for a treat!!
